UQP acquires new novel, 'Alchemy' by Larissa Behrendt

UQP is thrilled to announce the acquisition of world rights to a new novel by Larissa Behrendt, whose previous book After Story so impressed readers and critics in 2021. Alchemy is an intertwining story about the blurred lines between science and supernatural, the slow burn of grief and histories that refuse to be buried. Set between 1960s western Queensland and the present day, it explores justice, secrets and the power of myth.

Madonna Duffy, UQP’s Publishing Director, says,

‘We couldn’t be happier to be continuing our long publishing relationship with Larissa, which began in 2002 when she won the David Unaipon Award for her novel Home. Her work as a broadcaster, academic, filmmaker and human rights lawyer has brought a wisdom and richness to her fiction that makes her one of the most exciting writers in Australia.’

Larissa says,

‘I'm excited to be working with Madonna and the team from UQP. They’ve nurtured my creative writing from the start of my career. Like all my novels, it's been a long time brewing and I'm looking forward to bringing it into being.’

UQP will publish Alchemy in 2025.
