UQP acquires Josie McSkimming memoir
We're delighted to announce that UQP has acquired ANZ rights to Memory is a Nesting Magpie by Josie McSkimming, in a deal brokered by Gaby Naher of Left Bank Literary.
Written by the younger sister of Dorothy Porter, the book is a memoir that covers Porter’s life and McSkimming’s sibling relationship with Porter.
Said UQP publishing director Madonna Duffy:
‘Dorothy Porter was one of Australia’s most charismatic and courageous literary figures and her younger sister Josie McSkimming has peeled back the layers of Dorothy’s life, loves and their sibling relationship in this important book. It is an arresting family memoir about sisters, complicated families and the quest for belonging and acceptance.’
Said Josie McSkimming:
‘I’m so pleased to be working with Madonna and the UQP team, who have published much amazing Australian literature and poetry. UQP was also my sister’s publisher for many of her early works so I have come full circle, making them the perfect choice for this book.’
UQP will publish Memory is a Nesting Magpie in early 2025.
