UQP authors at Beyond the Book Youth Literature Festival

Beyond the Book has unveiled their program for 2024, and we are thrilled to have the following UQP authors appearing at this year's festival.

The in-person festival will run on the 22nd - 23rd of February, and the virtual festival will run from the 26th - 28th of February.


Thursday 22 February

Talk: Space, Soccer and Alien Friends (Yrs 4-6) with Peter Carnavas

9.30am - 10.15am; 11am - 11.45am

Explore space and your own imagination as we dive into the world of Leo and Ralph, a novel about a boy and his imaginary alien friend who won't let go.


Workshop: Drawing Characters (Yrs 4-6) with Peter Carnavas

12.30pm - 1.30pm

Learn how to draw appealing characters and tell stories with pictures, using just circles, lines and dots.


Talk: Author’s Secrets (Yrs 4-6) with Allison Rushby

9.30am - 10.15am; 11am - 11.45am; 12.30pm - 1.15pm

Allison Rushby gives primary students a look into what it’s really like to be an author. Secrets duly divulged, young writers will be shown tips and tricks that will help with their own writing, including how to find ideas, get the words down and draft something fabulous in a voice that is all their own.

'Books on the Green' + the launch of Leo and Ralph by Peter Carnavas

5.30pm - 7pm

Join the festival atmosphere at Immanuel Lutheran College for a free afternoon on the Green. Authors and Illustrators will be entertaining the crowd, along with book sales and signings, food trucks and loads of fun. Peter Carnavas will launch his latest book Leo and Ralph - a stellar novel about space, starting over and the best friend you could ever imagine.


Friday 23 February
