2025 Context Writers Festival

Context Writers Festival 2025: New Conversations About Story and Truth

Context Writers Festival is a free, two-day festival for writers and readers to connect and share new conversations. An initiative of the City of Adelaide delivered in partnership by Writers SA, and guest curated by Justina Ashman, the 2025 Context Festival features a diverse range of local and international artists, held on Kaurna Yarta. This year’s program explores storytelling across mediums and genres, publishing, and more. This year we are proud to welcome Isla Huia, a Māori poet from Christchurch, as part of an Adelaide–Christchurch Sister City exchange, delivered in partnership with Word Christchurch.

Historical Fiction Panel

How does one navigate the tricky territory of researching and writing historical fiction? Join Mirandi Riwoe, Lainie Anderson and Payton Hogan in a conversation on writing history.

Writing fiction set in Australia’s messy past, these writers explore the stories often hidden in the margins of history.

How can fiction challenge dominant (straight, white, patriarchal, colonial) narratives of history? How do we thoughtfully and responsibly research and write the stories of our past that have been hidden or suppressed?

This event is free, though registrations are essential.
