Sally Soweol Han wins 2023 CBCA Award for New Illustrator
UQP are delighted to share the news that Sally Soweol Han has won the 2023 CBCA Award for New Illustrator, for her work on her debut, Tiny Wonders.
The CBCA presents annual awards to Australian books of literary merit, for outstanding contribution to Australian children's literature.
The CBCA was founded in 1945 in a when Australian children’s books were few, and Australian authors and illustrators were virtually unknown. The following year, 1946 the The Book of the Year Awards, an annual award to promote books of high literary and artistic quality was established. These awards are now the most influential and highly respected in Australia.
This monumental achievement comes ahead of the release of Sally's latest picture book, Nightsong, featuring the same stunning and distinctive artwork that appears in Tiny Wonders.
The first thing that hit me about Tiny Wonders was the riotous colour of the flowers on the cover, and the wide-eyed happy smile of the little girl carrying the jar. This is the story of April trying to bring that same sense of wonder and delight to everyone around her, and the way she settles on is dandelions. Something simple, something every day.
... Tiny Wonders is a charming book that will be enjoyed by young readers from 4 to 6 years and would make a wonderful book to read and reflect on in the classroom or a library group.
