Join us for the Smallroom Open Mic night in June featuring guest author Steve MinOn author of the recently released First Name Second Name with UQP Press.
Steve MinOn was an internationally awarded advertising copywriter and a restaurateur before becoming a writer of fiction. He grew up in North Queensland and he now lives in Meanjin/Brisbane. Steve’s debut novel First Name Second Name (UQP 2025) won the Glendower Award for an Emerging Queensland Writer in the 2023 Queensland Literary Awards. He has written often about outsiders and his family’s mixed-race ancestral history, and his articles and short stories have been published in SBS Voices, Mamamia and various newspapers and anthologies.
Steve MinOn will read from his novel First Name Second Name and be In Conversation with Associate Professor Sally Breen. This will be last Smallroom event for Trimester 1 so don't miss it! All the usual inclusions you've come to know and love about Smallroom will be available - dinner and entry for $5, a free book fair, live music, cash bar and great company with fellow literary souls. Doors open at 6pm. Sign on for open mic at the door. Limited spots available. Open to the public.
Parking is available on Theatres Lane off Parklands Drive. The Drama Theatre is located in the G07 facility on the Gold Coast Campus. You'll find this next to the gym and under the uni bar.
