Speaker Series - 'Gutsy Girls: Love, Poetry and Sisterhood' -Josie McSkimming

Josie Mc Skimming discusses her new memoir Gutsy Girls, an intimate insight into the life of her sister - trail-blazing queer poet, Dorothy Porter, and explores the personal experiences that fuelled her groundbreaking work.

Josie will be joined in conversation by award winning poet and critic Felicity Plunkett.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Josie McSkimming is a social worker, psychotherapist, university lecturer and author. She is the youngest of three sisters, her eldest being the award-winning poet, Dorothy Porter. Josie has appeared on many podcasts, radio programs, and on ABC TV. She is committed to social change and social justice and has become an ardent amateur naturalist and environmentalist. Josie lives in Sydney.

Felicity Plunkett is an award-winning poet and critic living on Wangal land. She is the author of A Kinder Sea (UQP), Vanishing Point (UQP) and the chapbook Seastrands (Vagabond), published in Vagabond Press’ Rare Objects series. She edited Thirty Australian Poets (UQP). Felicity has a PhD from the University of Sydney and is a widely-published critic. She was Poetry Editor with UQP for nine years. As an emerging poet, Felicity was mentored by Dorothy Porter at Varuna. As an academic, she wrote several articles about Dorothy Porter’s poetry.
