UQP has sold world English (ex ANZ) rights to Randa Abdel-Fattah’s Discipline to Oneworld Publications
UQP has sold world English (ex ANZ) rights to Randa Abdel-Fattah’s Discipline to Oneworld Publications, in a deal between UQP rights manager Erin Sandiford and Oneworld publisher Juliet Mabey. With a focus on two of today’s most contested fields, academia and the media, Discipline is a powerful and urgent work of contemporary fiction that tallies the price we all pay when those with privilege choose to remain silent.
Last week, Discipline was named the winner of the People’s Choice Award at the 2026 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.
“Discipline is a story about the costs of fighting for a just and equal world and the price paid by the diasporas of empire. Whilst Discipline is set in Australia, it is very much a transnational diasporic story that resonates across the borders of Western societies. This is why I am so thrilled that Oneworld is publishing Discipline and that British readers will be able to see themselves and their struggles in my characters and the institutions they negotiate.” - Randa Abdel-Fattah
“Representing Randa Abdel-Fattah’s Discipline overseas has been one of the greatest honours of my career. Selling Discipline to Juliet Mabey, three‑time Booker Prize–winning publisher, is a powerful affirmation of the novel’s literary merit and international significance.” - Erin Sandiford
Mabey said, “Fiction is one of the most powerful ways to open a window onto an unfamiliar world, and this brilliant novel does exactly that. Randa Abdel-Fattah sensitively guides us through the moral and political mazes that current world events have thrust her characters into, and asks them to interrogate their responsibility to stand up, to take action. And most importantly, by inviting readers to walk in their shoes, she helps us better understand the world and our place in it.”
UQP publisher Aviva Tuffield said, “I knew as soon as I started reading the manuscript of Discipline that it was a superb, nuanced and thought-provoking work of fiction. But it has also proven to be a lightning rod for important conversations and a touchstone for cross-cultural understanding — and a bestseller to boot. We are delighted that this significant, timely book is now heading to the UK and North America via Oneworld — there couldn’t be a better home for it.”
UQP has also sold Arabic language rights to Al Karma and audiobook rights to Wavesound.
Oneworld plans to publish the novel in late 2026.
