About the Internship

Open Book
: Australian Publishing Internship is a paid internship aimed at fostering cultural diversity in the Australian book publishing industry. It aims to provide a well-rounded introduction to the industry and create practical and sustainable pathways towards long-term careers for aspiring professionals.

The Open Book Brisbane Placement will be held as follows:

Mon 10 Aug–Fri 16 Oct
– University of Queensland Press

Successful applicants will gain experience across a range of divisions including editorial, production, sales and distribution, and marketing and publicity.

Throughout the program, interns will be supported by a mentor, who will act as an external contact to guide and support them through their internship.

Applications are strongly encouraged from people from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. While the internship is an entry-level position, Open Book does not equate this with youth or inexperience, and there is no upper age limit for applicants. Of the available internships in 2026 (across Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane), one is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
