'Digger Digs Down' shortlisted for the 2025 Tasmanian Literary Awards
Congratulations to Johanna Bell and Huni Bolliger on their book Digger Digs Down being shortlisted for thee Minister for the Arts' Prize for Books for Young Readers and Children at the 2025 Tasmanian Literary Awards.
The Tasmanian Literary Awards celebrate excellence in the Tasmanian literary sector, raise the profile of Tasmanian authors and foster literary talent in our State. They are administered by Arts Tasmania on behalf of the Tasmanian Government.
The judges stated:
The shortlisted books capture a broad audience, from the earliest reader who is just discovering language and stories, through to teens who are curious about the wonders of their natural world. In these beautifully produced books, captivating writing in fiction and non-fiction, combined with vivid illustrations, offer much to delight and satisfy younger readers.
The judges also stated:
[Digger Digs Down's] playful language and vibrant artwork make this seemingly simple story a standout picture book for independent or shared reading. Readers join an exuberant Digger as he digs deep, finding a world of wonder. This is a book to be read again and again, with each reading revealing something delightful, unexpected or new.
The winners will be announced in Hobart on March 26.
