Ellen van Neerven at Perth Festival's Literature Weekend
Throat, the new collection from award-winning poet Ellen van Neerven marks a self-assured return from one of the country’s most remarkable writers on memory, country and love. With writing reminiscent of Alexis Wright and Audre Lorde, Ellen carves out their own niche with poems that comment on the times. From a poem that refers to s18C of Australia’s Racial Discrimination Act 1975 to one that addresses the reader in the format of a treaty, to one that uses an elaborate snakes and ladders list, their writing is always playing with form in beautiful ways. Join Ellen (via live stream) in conversation with Rafeif Ismail.
This event is live-streamed but requires registration. Recommended ticket price is $19, however Perth Festival is offering a Pay What You Can system where you can choose to pay any amount you’d like – from $0. Any amount you pay above $19 will be used to ensure that other people are able to attend Festival events where cost is normally a barrier.
