Deborah Stevenson


Deborah Stevenson lectured in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Newcastle. Prior to this appointment, she was the Director of the Arts Management program in the Faculty of Business at the University of Technology, Sydney and worked as a Cultural Planning consultant for local government (conducting the 1994 Cultural Review for Newcastle City Council). Dr Stevenson has published widely on recent cultural policy trends and is currently conducting research into Cultural Planning in Australia, the United Kingdom and North America. She is also a Chief Investigator on a three-year Australian Research Council Large Grant Project concerned with regional cultures. Her book Agendas in Place: Cultural and Urban Planning for Cities and Regions, which considers the relationship between cultural planning, urban tourism and city reimaging in Australia, was published by RESRC Central Queensland University Press in 1998. Deborah’s most recent publication with UQP is Art and Organisation: Making Australian Cultural Policy (2000).
