Miles Franklin (1879-1954) is one of Australia's most famous writers and an early feminist. Best known for her first novel, My Brilliant Career, which was made into an internationally acclaimed movie starring Judy Davis and Sam Neill. Her name is remembered annually with the announcement of the prestigious Miles Franklin Award which she bequeathed to the nation for best Australian novel. Jill Roe is professor of history at Macquarie University and an authority on Franklin - she edited 2 volumes of Miles' letters (My Congenials) and is currently writing her biography. Margaret Bettison is a librarian and researcher. This book includes extensive commentaries and details textual notes on historical context to assist reader enjoyment.
