Sicilian-born Domenico Cacciola joined the police in 1966 and retired in 2001. He received the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct in 1977 and the National Medal in 1991 among other awards. Mick has written The Second Father with the assistance of his brother Carmelo Cacciola and journalist Ben Robertson.
