Sarah Holland-Batt was born in Surfers Paradise, Queensland in 1982, and has lived in Australia, the United States, Italy and Japan. Her first book, Aria, won the Thomas Shapcott Prize for Poetry, the Arts A.C.T. Judith Wright Poetry Prize and the F.A.W. Anne Elder Award, and was shortlisted in the 2009 New South Wales and Queensland Premier's Literary Awards for Poetry. She is also the recipient of the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, an Asialink Literature Residency, and an Australia Council Literature Residency at the B.R. Whiting Studio in Rome. Her poems have been widely published in Australian and international literary journals and anthologies and have been translated into German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, and Bahasa Indonesian. In 2010 she was the W.G. Walker Memorial Fulbright Scholar at New York University, where she earned her M.F.A
